Rock Bottom with Opening Act The Surf Riders – May 19, 2018, 9 PM
Midway Café, Jamaica Plain, 3496 Washington St, Boston, MA 02130

Always a crowd pleaser, covering classic rock hits from the 70s and 80s, Rock Bottom will perform with opening act “The Surf Riders”.  Rock Bottom takes a self described tongue-in-cheek approach to performance (think: wigs, flares, beads, vintage stage banter) but plays their classic material as accurately as possible. The repertoire ranges from Led Zeppelin, Free, and Sweet to Judas Priest, as well as shameless covers of songs by corporate rock mainstays like Foreigner and Journey. The band likes to refer to the more questionable material as “forehead slappers”, due to the reaction of the audience frequently observed from the stage. The band members are seasoned area rockers including drummer Jim Janota (Upper Crust, Bags, Lyres) vocalist Chris Cote (Upper Crust, Seks Bomba, Giant Kings) bassist David Fredette (Upper Crust, Titanics) and guitarists Chris Blue (Georgia Overdrive, Rudds, Rag Iron, United States) and Charles Hansen (Andrea Gillis, Gymnasium, Ross Phasor).

Robyn Hitchcock – February 17, 2018, 7 PM (Opening reception 6:00 PM)
Firehouse Theater, 1 Market Square, Newburyport, MA 01950

The Tedrock Fund, Inc. is proud to present an intimate night with Robyn Hitchcock, with opening duo Mike Gent and Pete Donnelly of the Figgs, in memory of Ted Collins.

Robyn Hitchcock is one of England’s most enduring contemporary singer/songwriters and live performers. A surrealist poet, talented guitarist, cult artist and musician’s musician, Hitchcock is among alternative rock’s father figures and is the closest thing the genre has to a Bob Dylan (not coincidentally his biggest musical inspiration).

Since founding the art-rock band The Soft Boys in 1976, Robyn has recorded more than 20 albums as well as starred in ‘Storefront Hitchcock’ an in concert film recorded in New York and directed by Jonathan Demme.

Blending folk and psychedelia with a wry British nihilism, Robyn describes his songs as ‘paintings you can listen to’. His most recent album is self-titled and marks his 21st release as a solo artist. Out on April 21 2017, the album is produced by Brendan Benson (The Raconteurs). Hitchcock describes it as a “ecstatic work of negativity with nary a dreary groove.”

It has received rave reviews from UNCUT, Rolling Stone, Paste, Tidal and more.

Opening act, duo Mike Gent and Pete Donnelly of the Figgs, have a worldwide fan base, a hearty discography, and have toured and recorded several times in the Figgs with the legendary Graham Parker. Since the Figgs inception in 1987, the band has spent the better part of the past 25 years touring, recording and working on a variety of acclaimed side projects, including their 25th anniversary release “1,000 People Grinning: The Figgs Anthology”.
